Born in the small town of Haverfordwest, south Wales UK, Mark and his brother Darren were raised by their Aunt and Uncle Di and Des Beckerleg after their Mother Pat passed away when Mark was only eight months old.
At school Mark paid very little attention to his work and achieved very little, with his teachers believing that because of his faliure at school Mark would never amount to anything.
After leaving school with low self-esteem Mark decided that the only place he could turn was the army, so in October 1990 at the age of sixteen he joined the Royal Artillery. After eight months in the junior Artillery he decided that he would like to take on a new challenge and in 1991 after failing twice through a lack of fitness he passed the British Army Commando course and won his green beret.
After serving seven years in 29 Commando Regt RA, he left the Army and became a personal bodyguard in park lane London, before moving to Cardiff to become a Personal fitness coach.
In 1999 Mark completed the
"Marathon Des Sables" a gruelling 141 mile run over seven days in the Sahara Desert.
